Hey my pretty little plums!
I wrote this blog earlier today and as I went to publish it the whole thing just disappeared. So…here we go again 🙂
I wanted to do a quick post about a product that I would gladly shout about from the top of a mountain. Well, if I wasnt prone to altitude sickness at least.
By now I think we have all become acquainted with the Naked and Naked 2 palettes from Urban Decay. They have sparked a full-blown cult following, set records, and upon their release were sold out in almost every Sephora and Ulta that you could find. I have done a blog before about these products, if you are interested in learning more about them check it out. I don’t really have MUCH bad to say about them..I love them and use them all time. Well, I DID use them all the time until lately and I’m here to tell you why that is.
For most people, the problem with the Naked palette (and all its wanna be copy cats that have come to be since) is that they are 85% shimmery shades and 15% matte ones. Dont get me wrong, I love a beautiful show stopping shimmery shadow (say that five times fast) as much as the next person, but it creates a bit of a challenge using them as a lid color, highlite, and crease color. As far as I’m concerned too much shimmer is NOT a good thing. I’m not alone in this, the ratio of shimmer to matte has consistently been the only bad thing anyone has really had to say about the palettes through all the research and reviews I have come across.
The good people at LORAC must have been doing their homework as well because they came out with the LORAC PRO palette during the summer of this year. This little baby comes prepared with a mini eye primer, which I really havent made much use of as of yet. BUT, it also comes with 8 drop dead gorgeous shimmery colors as well as (hold on to your pants suit) 8 (that’s right 8) matte shades!!! Lets take a looksie at MY palette..shall we? NOTE: Mine is VERY well-loved so be prepared. However, I think the frequency at which I use it is a testament to how amazing I think it is.
See what I mean?
I have ONE bad thing to say about this and that is the packaging. Although it is sturdy and super sleek (making it ideal for travel) its made out of the same kind of matte black rubber packaging that NARS uses. Its nice at first but keeping it pristine is pretty much impossible after the first couple of days. It’s not enough of a nuisance to bother me AT ALL.
Heres a quick swatching of a few colors. These swatches are on my hand after ONE pass through the shadow and NO primer.
Basically, I am in LOVE. The shadows are buttery, PIGMENTED, and super blendable. What I love most about this palette is that you can go out-of-town with it and not need anything else. It has all the highlite, lid, crease, and outer v colors you could possibly need to create any neutral day or night time look as well a couple blues and purples to mix things up a bit. But the proof is in the pudding, I havent picked up my Naked palettes since I purchased this one. As far as I’m concerned it’s a MUST HAVE! You can find it at Ulta or Sephora for about $42.
I hope all is well with you guys! Things are good here, I recently got married and finished makeup school so things are looking bright 🙂
